Sun Clock 5 is a PC application and a useful screen saver to keep you in touch with the sun and the moon and your colleagues round the globe.

Sun Clock 5 provides time zones, multi-lingual support, phases of the moon, solar and lunar eclipses with stars and planets. Shadows indicate the portions of the earth's surface where the sun and moon are below the horizon.

Sun Clock 5 contains three screen savers in one: Sun Clock, the night sky, and a large format clock - take your pick. When used as a screen saver, Sun Clock supports Windows screen saver passwords.

See the sky as it appears from your location, or any location you choose. The sun, moon, and major planets are displayed against the stars. Two grids show the celestial coordinates and the elevation and bearing as measured from the specified location.

The distance to each planet and its speed with respect to the earth is displayed on the left.

The display of the large format analogue clock can be read from across the room and shows the time in any city you have selected.

Other features include sun path diagrams for any date or location and a printable perpetual calendar which shows the phases of the moon.

Sun Clock 5 shows time zones around the world a well as the time at locations of your choice. Place the cursor over any time zone to get the time in that zone. The state of the sun and the moon is shown as shadows on the map and as views as seen from your present location. Observe both solar and lunar eclipses.

The times of today's sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset are shown for your chosen location. You can choose to display the compass direction to Mecca from your location. For astronomers, the "Julian date" is updated each second. The time is displayed in the 24 hour format or am/pm.

Frequently asked questions

While we have endeavoured to get the best information that we can concerning the different time zones, we cannot guarantee that the information is correct. Time zones can change from year to year. You should not use the Sun Clock for applications where the time zone information is critical. Subject: moon eclipse Sunday 16 july 2000

Dear Sirs,
On Sunday last,16th of July, we here in Australia were treated to a magnificent full eclipse of the moon that took over 90 minutes. However at first I thought that the only way we would see the eclipse would be on the simulation on Mapmaker.
The previous four days had been fine with almost no cloud, the nights were frosty (minus 2 to minus 4C) and crystal clear, but Sunday started out with a high overcast that developed into almost 6/10ths cloud by late afternoon. At 5pm (dusk) cloud cover was complete and light rain commenced, This continued until nearly 9pm. To say the least, It wasn't looking very good for stargazing.
And there on the computer screen was the red ringed black orb approaching the white disk of the moon.
But the gods smiled on us for as the white disk of the moon was turning red on the computer screen, the clouds began clearing and there at about the 10 o'clock position in the sky shimmered the full moon.
The eclipse was just commencing, and for the next hours we watched as the eclipse ran its course.
To see the full disk of the moon being completely covered by the shadow of the earth is a wonderful sight.
The night remained crystal clear and as where I live has very little artificial light pollution, it was a magnificent occurrence. It had better have been for the astronomers tell us that we wont see another of that magnitude here until the year 3000. Some how I don't think that many of us will be too bothered about it then.
This is just to say how well your sun clock did in showing the event and although it could never equal the real thing, had conditions not improved as they did, it would have at least shown me what was going on.
Many thanks for Mapmaker, a truly ingenious program.
